Dancing Toward the Exit

Luca and Gabriele Stifani performing How About You? on stage

In February 2013, Time and Place writer Marjorie Neset welcomed How About You? to Albuquerque and found a story about identity in the space between two brothers.

Created by Philippe Blanchard and performed by Luca and Gabriele Stifani, the dance-theatre work had already appeared at Stockholm’s ICE HOT festival. At North Fourth Art Center, Neset saw its questions about closeness and difference take on another dimension through identical twins: two people who can look alike while never being the same person.

Her essay also looks beyond the stage. She remembers meeting Luca and Gabriele in New Mexico, their pleasure at being there, and the wider international team whose sound, lighting and production made the visit possible. It is a generous record of an encounter between artists, a host theatre and a community.

This is our brief archive note, not a reproduction of Neset’s writing. Her full essay remains the best place to experience her voice and the photographs she chose to share.
